Free version is OK. I paid for a month and it still wanted me to go through the elementary lessons. Really seemed clunky trying to find if it even recognised me as a paid user. Having been to Việt Nam a few times i can tell you the " Learn Vietnamese " app is far and away better. It actually will loop though lists of words and phrases. Also uses different speakers, and is much more accurate hearing voice tones. This is okay for free version. Paid version Buyer beware
Only seven days of use and asks for payment details before completing setup. I understand apps need to make money, and I'm more than happy paying for something once I've tried it and decided it will be useful for me, but I'm not in any way happy to give my payment details in advance and then have to cancel if I don't find the app useful. It's a cynical sales tactic and I don't trust any app that does it.
Wish there was a way to access everything with a one time purchase because I don't want the hassle of a subscription. Looks like free users only have access to basic lessons and the daily lessons, which is basically nothing. Doesn't support southern dialect (I'm a native speaker). App interface is cluttered and confusing but I could get used to it. App performance is honestly kind of bad and it stutters and lags as I navigate the app even though it really shouldn't on higher end phones.
I'm only giving it a 4 because it's my first day. So far this is the best app I've used since I started learning Viet. I have instant feedback. There are conversations to practice speaking. There are daily lessons to practice. I struggled with being engaged with workbooks. Since this mobile I can take it anywhere. Unlike the other apps, I think it may be worth the cost for premium access.
