Some apps are distributed as Split APKs (multiple .apk files packaged together) to optimize resources. Standard Android installers cannot open them.
Exciting changes that you’ve asked for!
“What should I learn first?”: select “Learn” on the home page of your chosen language and we’ll guide you through the main learning topics.
“Do I get anything for high scores?”: Score big in the six sections of the “Learn” pathway and you’ll get a bronze, silver or gold medal.
“Let me choose what to learn”: select “Explore” on the home page of your chosen language and you can pick the topics you’re interested in.
Learn languages fast: uTalk gets results because every word you hear is in your new language and you speak, listen and understand from Day One.
The app has a huge range of 150+ languages and with free starter words in each, you can try it risk-free. Score full marks in the games and you can also unlock an extra topic in your language for free.
uTalk helps you speak a new language for these 3 reasons:
1. Learn from the locals: We record native speakers so you can hear every word pronounced clearly. We then get you to mimic their pronunciation and compare your intonation with theirs. Practise until you get it right – you can even slow the audio down if it’s too fast.
2. Crammed full of words: Useful everyday words and phrases. Topics, like Food and Drink, take around two to three hours to complete. But you can dip in for just five minutes at a time or longer. With 60+ topics, that’s a total of 180 hours of learning.
3. Keeps you motivated: Check your scores on progress bars as you move through five progressively difficult games. To get full marks, you’ll have to know the words as well as your own language.
Who’s it for? uTalk’s tried and trusted way to learn a new language has been developed over 30 years and is perfect for beginners. But, because of its wide-ranging language, it’s also invaluable for intermediates looking to fill in gaps in their vocabulary and pronunciation.
How it works: Subscribe to everything on uTalk or buy individual languages or topics. Learn on any device, at home or on the move. The app automatically syncs between your devices. Work offline by downloading content.

This has glitch app launching the first time on a little Chromebook, but once that's gotten past with closing it 3 times or so and restarting it, then it works after that. It starts up in full screen like it should without the user having to change it, which is exactly what a Chromebook app should do. uTalk has changed a lot since I started using it. Recently, they've enabled individual lifetime language subscriptions which are inexpensive enough that purchasing for a child might be doable.
So far, I have enjoyed using uTalk. They even have Greenlandic, which I hope to one day learn. It reminds me of DuoLingo in the early years - you can earn ucoins to unlock new lessons or you can pay to subscribe. You can record yourself and hear how closely you match native speakers, and there are memory games which help make memorization fun. I haven't noticed any grammar notes yet, though, and that might hinder learning.
Very helpful app to learn a new language. There are some flaws I'd like to address. It would be nice to have a cumulative review of what was learned so far to help retain material while still making progress. I also wish to have options to create my own phrases from words I've learned for casual conversation. There are many things I will probably never say, "Should I boil the water?" For instance. It could use some minor improvements, overall happy. It is expensive for what is offered, though.
It took a little while to figure out how to get access to full functionality, but the trick is SCROLL DOWN! Cause the topic menu is off the screen! And it doesn't even look like there is a menu, if you don't know it's there. This App is stable, and very effective at helping you learn a Language, the game format helps your mind relax so you can remember things quicker, and easier, and it feels more fun. The best thing I like about the App is they offer more Categories than the Computer Version!
