Lookout uses computer vision and generative AI to assist people with low vision or blindness in getting things done faster and more easily. Using your phone's camera, Lookout makes it easier to get more information about the world around you and do daily tasks more efficiently like reading text & documents, sorting mail, putting away groceries, and more.

Lookout offers seven modes:
• <b>Text:</b> Scan text and hear it read aloud while doing things like sorting mail and reading signs, using Text mode.
• <b>Documents:</b> Capture a whole page of text or handwriting using Documents mode. Available in over 30 languages.
• <b>Explore:</b> Identify objects, people, and text in surroundings using Explore mode.
• <b>Currency:</b> Identify banknotes quickly and reliably using Currency mode, with support for US Dollars, Euros, and Indian Rupees.
• <b>Food labels:</b> Identify packaged foods by their label or barcodes using Food labels mode. Available in over 20 countries.
• <b>Find:</b> Scan surroundings to find objects like doors, bathrooms, cups, vehicles, and more using Find mode. Find mode can also tell you the direction and distance to the object, depending on device capabilities.
• <b>Images:</b> Capture, describe, and ask questions about an image using Images mode. Image descriptions and Q&A available globally in English only.
Lookout is available in more than 30 languages, and runs on devices with Android 6 and above. Devices with 2GB or more RAM are recommended.

I have been using this app for a while now, and I love what It does. Reading denominations on money is great. Reading the tiny print they use in product manuals (pamphlets) is impossible these days, so I usually take a picture and then blow it up so I can read it. This app has put an end to that. I are hold it up for a second, and it starts reading. You don't even have to keep it on the page once it starts reading My problem, the explore mode won't shut up. I can't find the setting for slow
There's a very serious bug. For the voice announcements, it would appear that Lookout uses Android's accessibility audio stream, which uses a separate volume slider and controls. Unfortunately, Lookout doesn't enable access to these separate volume controls, so if it's not right, you can't change it! The only workaround is to, at least temporarily, enable the use of another accessibility service that *does* reveal the controls for the speech volume, such as TalkBack or Select to Speak.
I wanted this to read subtitles on the TV. Quite useless for this as it is continually announcing "No text in view" and, when it does find something it gives a loud click before reading it. You cannot turn these features off so useless for what could have been wonderful for someone with partial sight loss. I also feel it is a bit too slow reading for UK TV subtitles.
I love the idea. But needs better user interface for a visually impaired person. Small menus mean its almost impossible to navigate. Needs better integration with gemini as the camera mode and voice are miles ahead in Gemini. Voice interaction, room mapping and voice guidance would make this perfect. Also a large one button widget for the homescreen to open the app.
