In the most distant reaches of the world, magic still exists, embodied by spirits of the land, of the sky, and of every natural thing. As the great powers of Europe stretch their colonial empires further and further, they will inevitably lay claim to a place where spirits still hold power - and when they do, the land itself will fight back alongside the islanders who live there.
Spirit Island is a cooperative settler-destruction strategy game designed by R. Eric Reuss and set in an alternate-history world around A.D. 1700. Players become different Spirits of the land, each with their own unique elemental powers, forced to defend their island home from colonizing Invaders spreading blight and destruction. Your Spirits work with the native Dahan to increase your power and drive the invading colonists from your island in this strategic area-control game.

I'm a pretty big fan of Spirit Island and enjoy getting out the physical game whenever I have time (which isn't much due to family and work), but I can say that I haven't encountered a single bug in this game playing singleplayer. I have yet to try it online, but I want to play with someone I know and not somebody random. So, for what it's worth, I think the game plays and functions absolutely flawlessly.
I got this game specifically so that I could play on an overseas trip. However, I didn't realize that it doesn't actually have an offline mode. With the $2/month subscription method, it locks you out without internet connection, which means I was extremely disappointed when I tried to play it. As other reviews have suggested, please make it like Spotify where it gives you 4 weeks of playing offline with full access before locking you out. I don't even know if buying it outright fixes this issue
Very well put together, but not only quite expensive compared to other board game mobile apps, but hides the cost behind a facade of free download, which strikes me as a little slimy. The free version lets you play only difficulty zero with a small cast of spirits for only five turns and constantly pushes you to buy the full game, which is like $24 for core and another $12 for expansions. I don't like the cost or the method. That being said, if you like playing solo, no setup is nice.
Overpriced cash-grab version of a great game Requires connection to use unlocks you paid for. If you get this to play somewhere you don't have a good signal...you can't. If there is a hiccup on their servers...you can't. If this app wasn't a clone of an absolutely brilliant game, it would already be dead and forgotten. Because it is S.I., and as long as you have a strong signal at all times, it is actually worth the insane price. Otherwise, caveat emptor.
