I used to love this app. It was great and accessible for somebody who doesn't have the means to get a real life teacher. Now it's completely blocked by a paywall ($120 USD annually or $20 monthly) which I understand, but not a SINGLE free lesson or demo? Youtube isn't a perfect teacher but it's free. Somebody picking up an instrument shouldn't have to worry about additional expenses on top of what's already an expensive passion. It's discouraging to say the least.
Its basically what you'd expect for a "fretless string learning" app. Except.. it's also oddly worse. Be prepared to swap your bow hand or shoulder grip often as all of the video bits repeat on loop forever. You wanna hear about the same thing twice? You're going to get it. There's no pausing, either. Maybe a supplimentary app, but not worth the price for what you're getting. I'd rather find online live instruction, than pay for something that overall, will teach bad habits in the long run.
This app is great for those who want to learn the basics of handling a violin from tuning to posture. However when it comes to actually playing the music, unless your microphone was crafted with the lightning of Zeus himself, Don't expect to get too high of a score because even if you're playing open notes constantly, the app can decide all of a sudden that it's out of tune or think that it's the wrong note and it's frustrating.
For over a year I would look at this app since it seemed good. I thought $60 was too much for an app that probably wouldn't be as great as it sounded. Finally, I just did. Hands down one of the best decision ever. I love how the app not only detects the pitch and rhythm but also shows how consistent your pressure is. Lots of great tutorials and just about everything a violin student needs. They also have teachers available for private instruction. That is an add-on and they offer packages.
