Game was great for me when I first started playing, but once you clear the story you basically only get enough resources to do 10-20 pulls a month for free, and farming gold is unnecessarily limited, slowing you down on making your team stronger. The game is not technically p2w but it becomes pay to progress pretty quickly. Unfortunate, because I did really like this game
The gameplay dies once you hit max level, everything either gets one shot and is boring, or one shots you and is frustrating. The late game forces you to have several sets of fully upgraded teams IN A GACHA GAME and so they have no sense. The story is the only part of this game that's worth anything, and I've even had to skip huge chunks that went on for far too long without being interesting, just two characters bickering without even being funny about it.. who wants to sit there and read THAT?
I have been playing this game since it's global release and it's quickly become one of my favorites. Despite being a gacha game, the amount you spend on it can vary, with the game being pretty generous with its currency, as well as ways to acquire it. You can get pretty far with minimal spending, but don't expect not to spend if you want to invest in keeping your team rosters fresh and feeling new. Overall, I'm quite content with the game so far, and hope it sticks around for a long time coming
The big draws of GFL1 were that: (1) all characters were available, even to F2P players; and (2) the high quality writing. Unfortunately this version has become a pay-to-play game, with every new character often out of reach for anyone not willing to invest, and the endgame/high-level content requiring high investment. There is so much fun lore & writing, but why bother with the game when you can read it on YouTube? The only tactic for success in this "TTB" game: whale. I hope it changes.
