It's a solid file manager on-device, but I can never get samba logins to work over LAN (yes, my login is 100% correct) despite it working on all other local computers, and I have to manually transfer over USB to my mobile device as a result. Also having ads isn't so bad as much as the type of ads which are straight up malware. Ethical choices matter here.
This was my favorite file manager for a long time, especially back when I rooted my phone and swapped ROMs all the time. I just downloaded it again for the first time in a few years and man is it bloated now. Ads, weird persistent notifications about your storage, and a weird home page with all sorts of random options and features instead of just... looking at your file directory? I get wanting to improve your app over time but I don't need any of this stuff from a file manager
Guess I should've stuck with the older ES File Explorer. I went to update it and it no longer existed so after a search it looked like it was renamed to EX. This one's filled with ads, and not just small banner ads at the bottom (which wouldn't bother me), but unskippable (you can after a while) garbage after a super slow startup. Going to find a different file explorer. :-/
Paid version: There's one thing that it's good at. Ensuring that you'll never run out of storage. If you move a file from one location to another, and then delete the original "empty" directory, everything you moved goes with it! Learned this the hard way after organizing ~20gb of family photos in preparation to export them to my PC. Thankfully, I at least have the low quality cloud backups. Uninstalling.
