I love Mango and prefer it to other "freemium" language learning apps. For one, I was able to access full courses using my local library card, which is amazing. I feel that is much better for beginners and helps teach actual useful phrases for conversation. I really love the slides that explain culture and correct usage of certain words. Although, if you are considering learning a language that doesn't use Latin/Roman script, it seems like you do have to learn the writing system on your own
Free through several organizations including many public libraries (with library card), visually simple and clean, not gamified, provides useful and relevant cultural and language tips alongside regular lessons, and as far as I can tell does not use AI in any significant way, if at all. Also lets you jump to any lesson you'd like, so if you know you're ready to jump ahead you can (and you can also jump back anytime you feel you need to)
A good app, especially for free (via library membership). Cons: 1. They don't use the article; for example, you learn "problema" and not "el problema". This makes it so you have to learn the word and the word's gender separately. 2. You can always hit the "next" button and zoom past content, which my 8 year old tries to do. You have to be real honest with yourself to learn. This makes app a bad choice for young and/or lazy learners.
This has been the absolute best language learning app I have ever used! I usually struggle to learn languages in general but their approach gets you conversational quickly and for some reason has really stuck with me. I just have one feature I hope they add: the ability to bring back old flashcards easily! Like maybe have a flashcard list that shows all the flashcards you've seen and you can choose to bring some cards back easily.
