The Seastar S50 offers an ideal entry point into astronomy. It can quickly outperform older visual telescopes by providing superior views of celestial objects—achieving this in just under 5 or 10 minutes. You can enjoy these views using devices you're already familiar with, like your smartphone or, better yet, a tablet. This approach is known as EAA, electronically assisted astronomy. At the end of your viewing sessions you'll have awesome photos to share with your family and friends.
Great most of the time. I absolutely loved my s30. So much so I got the s50 too. The app works well most of the time but tends to have glitches after some updates requiring adjustments and calibrations and or further updates to fix it. That said it's nice that they are continually updating as needed. The app is pretty straightforward and simple to use. They have tutorials explaining pretty much everything. One issue I have is the deep sky stacker is not great and tends to bloat stars.
I've had my S50 for about a year now and never had a problem connecting to it from my S24+ Android phone or my iPad. With this latest update, that is no longer the case. My connection will drop randomly and I cannot get reconnected. The additon of EQ mode is awesome but it is useless if I cannot control the device. If I can get connected and get a capture session started, at least it will continue even after the connection drops, but I can't switch targets or even shut down the Seestar.
Latest update is problematic. 1) images no longer get saved to my phone's photo gallery (Google photos), I can only access them through the seestar app. This means I can't easily share any of these photos anymore. 2) accessing the images stored in the telescope itself is very slow and it keeps giving me a disconnected error. Also, there are cosmetic errors in the GUI, like "stargazing" and "planetary" are oddly truncated in the icon. Just feels a little rushed this time with loss of performance
