4 years after the original release of Spades, we are happy to announce our single greatest improvement in play quality, after a prolonged period devoted just to Spades. This has always been a collaborative project shared with York University and has combined the best of AI research with game industry engineering to achieve the best result so far. In this last period particular attention was paid to bidding and the Nil game, but we also made substantial progress in the Joker variants and efficiency of the analysis. it's no fun when I can predict the hands. I had several small spades. between the two partners they made their books as if they knew the cards. each played the only card the other needed so the first five books went back and forth. oh here's a random 2 of hearts, gosh my partner has the ace of hearts, oh he just played the 2 of clubs, oh I have the ace of clubs. the point is it takes far more work making the game random so this is like a cheaper version of the game. keep the money.
The bots are absolutely horrible. They intentionally will bag & set you. creator, mb you ought to pay attention to the overwhelming number of people saying the same thing. The other bot team also knows what you have in your hand (even on the first play). The bidding is dependent on what you bid, which is super frustrating. So sometimes, you need to undo all the moves and rebid. Basically, you're not playing strategy, you are playing to force your bot to play correctly. Waste of money.
AI has no clue how to play when partner goes Nil - its the highest points aspect and when the AI partner continuously messed up and doesnt play right, there is almost no chance of coming back to win. for $4.99, it needs to be better. also bid nil with a Q of spades when we were over 400 pts, and didnt need much more to close out. its fairly basic skills that it should have. this is a waste. games with ads play A LOT better...i just wish those versions had paid versions - this was one of the few
I love the interface. Best I've seen so far. My only complaint is my partner's poor situational awareness. CPU seems to go out of its way to lose by bags at critical moments, insisting on trying to set the opponent when it will cost us 100 just before winning. Or bidding nil when it's pointlessly risky. I know that contextual play is very hard to program. On the other hand, no smart human would play this way. I've tried all of the five star bots and a number of different settings on risk level.
