SMP Snake is a simple snake game played on a retro looking monochrome, text only "terminal" display. This display is intended to resemble the monochrome, CRT phosphor displays from the late 1970s and early 1980s. Colors available are green, amber, white, and a high contrast yellow mode for those who have difficulty seeing in the other three modes.

SMP Snake supports Google Play Games achievements and leaderboards. If you aren't signed in automatically, use the SIGNIN command from the menu.

Since the game is played on a text only terminal display, the game's settings are, naturally, controlled via textual terminal commands. Some useful commands are:

- HELP (display help text)
- PLAY (start a new game)
- MODE (change game mode between FREEPLAY and LEVELS)
- COLOR (set the terminal color, AMBER, GREEN, WHITE, or HIGHCONTRAST)
- FONT (set the terminal font, MONOSPACE or FORTYSEGMENT)
- LENGTH (set the snake's starting length, 1-65)
- MAX (set the snake's maximum length, 10-75)
- DIFFICULTY (set the game difficulty, 1-5)
- VIBRATION (turn vibration ON or OFF)
- HIGHSCORE (view *local* high score)
- LEADERBOARDS (view the leaderboards, 1-5)
- ACHIEVEMENTS (view achievements)
- SIGNIN (sign in to Google Play Games)
- SIGNOUT (sign out from Google Play Games)
