Nonograms, also known as pic-a-pix, paint by numbers puzzles, picross or griddlers, started appearing in Japanese puzzle magazines. Non Ishida published three picture grid puzzles in 1988 in Japan under the name of "Window Art Puzzles". Subsequently in 1990, James Dalgety in the UK invented the name Nonograms after Non Ishida, and The Sunday Telegraph started publishing them on a weekly basis.
In this puzzle type, the numbers measure how many unbroken lines of filled-in squares there are in any given row or column. To solve a puzzle, one needs to determine which cells will be boxes and which will be empty. Later in the solving process, the spaces help determine where a clue may spread. Solvers use a dot to mark cells they are certain are spaces.

I have been playing this game for countless years, ever since it was a free app of the day on the Amazon app store. I gladly paid for the unlimited hints because some of these puzzles are almost impossible without it. Now that that app store is defunct and I got a new phone, I realized my purchase was not linked to my account. I emailed them and they were able to fix my issue. If I could give them 6 stars, I would.
This is the best android app that I have ever paid money for! That's no joke or hyperbole. I bought this game years ago, because I enjoyed the occasional distraction. I worked through past level 6. Then... the updates came, and gave me new puzzles! I thought this would be a one-time thing. Perhaps just on occasion. However, over the years, it has continually updated and continually added new puzzles. Unbelievable compared to games that try to nickel and dime you. Fantastic Job! I love this game!
I love picross/nonograms, and this app is great. I've done over 1,000 of them, and consider myself to be quite proficient. However, the further I get, the more puzzles there are that are not solvable without guessing, which if wrong, messes up everything else. These puzzles are either poorly designed or were not caught in the review process. It's very frustrating not being able to solve them.
played this on the Amazon app store, since they'll no longer be supporting android, I switched to Google play. this game is always first to be installed on ALL devices. some people complain, but maybe they don't get how it works. even after all these years, it's STILL being updated with tweaks AND new puzzles! try the free version to get a feel for it, you can even change the way you interact with the puzzles. it's worth every penny, if this is your kind of game!
