I've just installed this as a replacement for another premium dictionary that decided to change to a subscription model and not honour previous payments. Anyway this seems to work just as well, in fact it handles wildcards better. The only improvement I can see so far, would be to add sound clips to aid in pronunciation.
The best dictionary I've ever used as a student of literature. It contains many old, archaic words that you can encounter in old works of literature and can't find them in other dictionaries nowadays. The definitions are short, quick and easy to understand. My only problems are the lack of voiced pronunciation, and the fact that you need a separate thesaurus app to look up synonyms. Chambers dictionary and thesaurus should be one app. Other than that, excellent app to use alongside wordweb.
Shorter OED contains twice as many words (they say) but does not even have the widely used 'beefcake'. So, Chambers, crossword puzzlers favourite, I'm going with you. Simple interface and the X-ref function is very nice. I don't need usage examples in a dictionary so your lack of them isn't an issue for me, but may be for others. Better etymology would be great, but not essential.
Have used print Chambers for years for crosswords and always found it excellent? The app is great except that when I type a lower case I then I often get the lower case L instead. My other half has the Windows version and has complained of the same problem but found a workaround, which does not work for me. I didn't return to this review so missed your reply. Anyway, the problem disappeared as mysteriously as it came and I am very happy with the app now.
