REVISED REVIEW. The OCR is excellent and much faster than others i have used. It deserves 5 stars. The problem is that you can't turn off the AI, and the AI trashes the text. I am working with a German encyclopedia volumes printed in Gothic Script. There are 2 columns per page. The AI will merge the 2 columns into 1. The first half of line and the second half come from different parts of the page and have nothing to do with each other. The result is nonsence. if the AI was optional, 5 star.
So I gave it a hard test, a scan of ten sides of a book from the mid 1800's with part of the text obscured by an large ink blot. It did OK. It took a guess at the missing words if they were at the end of a line but ignore all the text if they were at the start. It displayed a cavalier attitude to paragraphs and tended to run them together. The came the major flaw. Trying to save the text to a pdf saw the pages output in a totally random order, which is kind of useless for a narrative text.
The best ocr app I've ever used. It basically has everything you would require for an ocr you can also link web links and other attachments like pictures I just wish it could also copy tables, graphs and diagrams but even without it it's an amazing tool.
"Please include a text file export. This is an excellent app, but it has one major drawback for Malayalam users. When I scan Malayalam documents and export them as PDFs, the characters don't render correctly (the 'koottaksharam' and vowel signs get distorted or appear as boxes). Adding a 'Plain Text (.txt)' export would solve this, as it preserves the original Unicode encoding much better than PDF. Please fix this soon!"
